São Paulo has a lot of interesting features (see also my São Paulo City-Scapes) . Stunning graffities to architectural icons by Oscar Niemeyer; gorgeous restaurants – especially the churrascarias – , cool bars with delicate beers and caipirinhas and last but not least friendly people represent the character of the city. A conglomerate of architectural styles, put together seemingly without a masterplan (Pardon monsieur Haussmann), not a splendid beauty at first sight. What I figured already during the first visit in this lively economic capital of the 240 Mo people country, is the commercial center around Avenida Paulista. This main Anvenue is closed on Sundays for traffic and used as a playground, event location and sports park. Avenida Paulista is on a high ground of the city.
When you raise your view to the top of the high commercial buildings, you see a lot of strange constructions , metal frameworks that look today, when everything is digital, like remains of a distant past. In some cases these antennas are even higher than the buildings they use as a pedestal.
These icons of the radio days vary in form and size, sometimes nicely combined with the stunning graffities.
